Logistics

Logistics of Production

Pre-production is vital to all staff members when producing a media product, this is because It ensures that all members knows exactly what's going on and what their job role is. This helps create a timeline of whats to happen in the making of the product and gives enough time to each member to do their role in the production.

Another reason why pre-production and budgeting is very important for media production is because it minimising risk as all delays and such costs the production a lot of money, for example in the filing of a TV show if a main actor is late to set filming comes to a halt and therefore money is being wasted.

If an unforeseen circumstance occurs good logistics allows for changing of plan without time and money being wasted, for example in Mission Impossible: Fallout Tom Cruise, the main protagonist, broke his ankle whist doing a stunt. Their quick thinking allowed them to save time as they filmed other scenes where Tom was not needed and they would film the rest when he was ready, this saved a lot more money which would have hugely affected production.

An example of when pre planning and budgeting happens, unforeseen circumstances can affect production is in the film 'All the Money in the World', a 2017 film days from release until stories came out accusing Kevin Spacey, one of the main characters, of sexual harassment. Director and producers decided to remove him from the film and hired Christopher Plummer to replace him days out.The re-shoots took eight days to film at a cost of $10 million. It also involved Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams having to return to the Rome set during the Thanksgiving holiday of 2017.

Some of the logistics and organisation that is required for pre-production for film include a creative brief, creating a script and storyboard. A very important part of pre-production is calculating your budget and costs, making sure that you have enough of money to pay for permissions and clearances, and putting money to the side incase unforeseen circumstances occur. And also finding where you will do your filming, what will you be filming and who you will be filming.
